Experienced Nonprofit Tax Attorney

We are seeking to add an experienced senior associate to our team in both our San Diego and San Francisco offices.  These are NOT entry-level positions with the firm; we are looking for attorneys well-versed in nonprofit corporate and tax law.

The ideal candidates should have expertise in seeking and obtaining Federal Tax Exemption for public charities, private foundations, private operating foundations, and other exempt entities under 501(c). The candidate should also be familiar with necessary compliance filings, UBIT, AG audits, etc.

Education and Experience:

We require this candidate to be a graduate of an ABA accredited law school, with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience.

Software and Systems:

Required proficiency: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and experience with any legal case management system.

Valued Proficiency: Experience with Clio and Lexicata (legal CRM) software.

Hours, Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time position with a salary commensurate with your level of experience. There is a three-month probationary period, to ensure we are a good fit. We want to make sure that we are a perfect match and that you will be happy and we will be happy working together. After all, life is too short to spend your days working with people you don’t enjoy being around. If we both determine that you are a great fit, then after those 90 days of satisfactory employment you will become eligible to receive paid time off, health insurance and flexible spending account benefits and participate in our employer sponsored retirement plan (401(k)).

We also match our employee’s charitable contributions to the nonprofit organizations of their choice, up to $500/year.

We are searching for a recent law school graduate to join our team! This is an entry-level position with the firm, but one that has a great opportunity for growth and increasing responsibility. We are searching for a talented, hard-working, and passionate individual  – who wishes to learn more about the practice of corporate and tax law.

Education and Experience:

  • You should have completed coursework relevant to our practice areas (corporations or tax) with high grades.
  • You should have graduated from an ABA accredited law school within the past 2 years.
  • You should be able to start no later than September.
  • Your writing should be clear, persuasive and grammatically correct.
  • We will be asking for at least two professional references.
  • You must be tech-savvy. You don’t need to know how to code, but you should not be afraid to learn to use modern technology tools.

Primary Responsibilities:

As we expand, we require state specific legal research as well as generation of usable templates and forms. You will be responsible for this legal research and creating the products we need to expand. As your abilities and expertise increase, you will also assist us with corporate formations, including various non-profit entities, social enterprises and LLCs.

This is a part-time entry-level position with a salary commensurate with your level of experience. There is a three-month probationary period, to ensure we are a good fit. We want to make sure that we are a perfect match and that you will be happy and we will be happy working together. After all, life is too short to spend your days working with people you don’t enjoy being around.

If we both determine that you are a great fit, then after those 90 days of satisfactory employment, we will discuss opportunities to work with the firm as a full time employee. As a full time employee, you’ll be eligible to receive paid time off, health insurance and flexible spending account benefits and participate in our employer sponsored retirement plan (401(k)).
