Carol Stachwick, CPA

Since 1991, Carol has worked as a CPA in the nonprofit industry, providing audits, reviews, tax returns, and consulting to nonprofit organizations of all sizes.

Starting at Sonnenberg & Company, CPAs Carol worked with over 100 nonprofits of various sizes and at various stages, gaining first hand experiences of the needs and challenges of nonprofits as they strive to meet their mission and their budgets.  Later Carol worked as Audit Manager with two other local CPA firms, working with increasingly larger nonprofits via audit process and working with the CEOs, CFOs, and Board members.

Over the last 20 years, Carol has served as a Board member for eight San Diego nonprofit organizations, including Nonprofit Management Solutions, the San Diego Blood Bank, National Foundation for Autism Research, Partnerships with Industry, Girl Scouts San Diego/Imperial Council, Community Campership Council, and Options for All. In 2007, Carol helped form SPORTS for Exceptional Athletes and served as the founding Treasurer and later as Board President

From 2004 to 2007 Carol served as Adjunct Professor of Nonprofit Finance at the University of San Diego Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Leadership and Management.  In 2005 and 2010, she was asked to join AICPA expert panel to write the “AICPA Audit Committee Toolkit for Not-for-profit Organization,” a comprehensive manual in matters of audits, governance, independence, and Board management.

In 2017, Carol opened her own CPA firm providing CFO level support to nonprofits and small businesses.  The firm has focused on forming nonprofits, establishing or upgrading accounting systems, preparing tax returns, and providing financial analysis to nonprofit leadership.

When not working, Carol can be found hosting big family gatherings at home, hiking or snowboarding in Utah, or riding her horse in hills of Poway.
